Especially if u try and make the thing run on a bad volt reg to get back to the truck. Hope this isn't your case but check out for sure as u could replace the volt reg ... It was about 14.4 volts. RPM did not seem to change the voltage. This morning I took it out for a ride. Voltage on the gage was about 14.4 or so volts. Everything seemed okay.

Check to see if the stator is grounded. easy test just do a countonuity test from one plug to a engine ground or use a test light hook it to the positive post and touch it to wither plug whole on the stator plug in the case.
